Painted over an hour of good work, or a .kra file got away from you? If you have been saving with Krita VCS, every one of those saves is still there. Getting back to the one you want takes a few clicks, with nothing overwritten and nothing deleted.
Every save is already a restore point.
Each time you save a version, Krita VCS records the full state of your painting, layer by layer. Nothing is flattened, nothing is thrown away. Weeks of work sit in one history you scroll back through, not a folder full of look-alike files.
Because it only stores what changed between saves, that history stays small even after hundreds of versions.
Find the version you want, visually.
Open History and pick any two versions to see them side by side, or drag a swipe slider across the canvas. Changed pixels are outlined layer by layer, so you can spot the exact save where things still looked right, no guessing by filename or date.
Go back without losing anything.
Restore an older version and its files come back as a brand-new save on top of your history. The versions in between are never deleted, so you can always change your mind again. Undo works the same way: it lifts your most recent save back into unsaved changes, ready to redo.
Overlapping edits are flagged for you to review, never quietly overwritten.
